Learners Awards Celebration at Cambridge Street

The past Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Peter Wooton, presented cheques totalling more than £19,000--proceeds of his Mayoral Charity Appeal--to local charities. Cllr Wooton and his wife, Jean, handed over a cheque £7,000 to Bo Parys and staff from the department of Urology at Rotherham General Hospital, while representatives of other charities who received cheques looked on.
Rotherham Borough Council's 'Looked After Children' received £5,000, Rotherham Homestart £3,000, Rotherham Ethnic Disabled Children's society £1,500, Rotherham Holiday Aid £1,000 and £500 each went to Rotherham Foster Carers' Association, Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice and the Rotherham Hospice. A donation was also made to Rotherham's flood victims.
Mr. Suleman, Executive Director of Yorkshire Trust also attended the gathering to commemorate the completion of feasibility study of disabled young people from BME community .... MORE

Disability Rights Commision led research 'Living with Disability'
This research was commissioned by the Disability Rights Commission. It was designed to understand the impact of disability on the Pakistani Muslim population in Rotherham. Very little is known about this group because not only does it target people from a minority ethnic group but who also have a disability. Consequently, their voices have not been heard before and we know very little about their experiences of living with a disability or their experiences of accessing mainstream services.
